Is fat grafting the panacea? No. It comes with risks. For one thing, it is important to realize it is an inexact art. More fat is injected than is needed because there is a percentage of fat that is absorbed within the first few weeks. There is some guess work as to how much each individual will 'keep'. There is also a possibility of lumping and asymmetry. Many prominent surgeons refrain from using fat because of the difficulty in removing it, which can be a common request after the familiar contours have been changed and are sometimes difficult to adjust to. And, the verdict is still out on how well the face ages with the additional fat that is retained... so please proceed with caution!
